Sir John Soane 1753-1837, the son of a bricklayer went on to become an influential architect in the neoclassical style. Designer of the Bank of England among other notable works, Soane collected a vast array of classical art and architectural artifacts now housed in the Sir John Soane;'s Museum which was his former home.
